Projection Mapping Architecture Cultural Heritage Cultural Event
Amalfi Amalfi Cathedral Piazza Duomo

/ Overview

The facade of Amalfi Cathedral was transformed into a monumental surface of light through a video projection mapping intervention. The project enhances the iconic profile of the cathedral, its architectural layering and the scenic presence of the staircase, building a visual narrative calibrated to the real surface.

/ Project Details

Name: Video Mapping – Amalfi Cathedral

Client: Cultural event / institutional context

Location: Piazza Duomo, Amalfi

Date: Cultural heritage event

Technique: 3D Architectural Projection Mapping

Artist: Luca Agnani Studio

/ Challenge

The concept arises from the relationship between sacred architecture, urban space and the visual memory of the Amalfi Coast. The challenge was to work on an extremely recognizable facade without altering its identity: light had to follow the architecture, reveal its details and transform it into a respectful yet spectacular audiovisual narrative.

/ Visual Development

Facade composition

The defining elements of the facade were analyzed, highlighted and recomposed through light lines, geometries and graphic passages calibrated to the real surface.

Light architecture

The projection works on the proportions of the elevation, the arches, frames and decorative volumes, building a dynamic visual narrative designed to be viewed from Piazza Duomo.

Sacred architecture

The intervention places the Cathedral inside a nocturnal urban experience, creating an attraction for residents, visitors and the Amalfi Coast audience.

/ Solution

The mapping built a sequence of luminous compositions able to accompany, deconstruct and reconstruct the architecture of Amalfi Cathedral. The visual solution combines architectural precision and scenic intensity: light does not simply decorate the building, but amplifies its rhythm, depth and monumental presence.

/ Technique

Projection mapping

The facade was digitally reconstructed and calibrated to the real surface to achieve perspective correspondence, volume accuracy and a coherent reading of the architectural details.

Multi-projector setup

The projection was designed to enhance the cathedral facade and ensure night-time readability in the open space of Piazza Duomo.

Music & synchronization

The audiovisual sequence was built by synchronizing rhythm, graphic transformations and light passages, making the facade an active part of the narration.

/ Context

The video mapping on Amalfi Cathedral was conceived as a site-specific intervention to enhance one of the most recognizable architectural fronts of the Amalfi Coast. The projection works with the verticality of the facade, its decorative richness and the scenic strength of the staircase, transforming the Cathedral into a luminous and immersive landmark.
