Circle of Light Moscow
Art Vision 3D Projection Mapping, 2013
/ Overview
In 2013, Luca Agnani Studio was selected for Art Vision, the international 3D projection mapping competition of the Moscow International Festival “Circle of Light”. The project was presented on the facade of the Moscow Museum of Modern Art and won third prize, marking one of the studio’s first international recognitions and a decisive step in its research into the relationship between architecture, light and movement.
/ Project Details
Name: Circle of Light Moscow – Art Vision 2013
Result: 3rd Prize – Art Vision Competition
Event: Moscow International Festival “Circle of Light”
Location: Moscow Museum of Modern Art, Moscow
Date: October 2013
Technique: 3D Architectural Projection Mapping
/ The Competition
Art Vision required a work capable of dialoguing with a real facade, within an international competitive context and very concentrated production times. Luca Agnani Studio chose to work on the idea of the building as a living organism: columns, frames, solids and voids become parts of a scenic machine that comes alive before the audience, transforming the museum into an architectural presence in motion.
/ Visual Concept
Architecture as a body
Luca Agnani interprets the facade as an organism: columns become legs, volumes move, the building comes alive and seems ideally to move toward the audience.
Mapped illusion
Every transformation arises from the museum’s real geometry. Perspective, shadows and deformations are built to adhere to the facade and generate apparent depth.
International recognition
The third prize won in Moscow brought the studio’s work into an international scene alongside artists and teams specialized in light art, projection mapping and major audiovisual events.
Architectural precision
The museum surface is digitally reconstructed to align animations, perspective cuts and graphic passages with the real elements of the facade.
Light, volume and motion
The visual language combines geometries, dynamic shadows, volumetric effects and scenic movement to transform the museum into an animated architectural machine.
Competition workflow
The work was created within the tight schedule of an international competition: concept, animation and facade adaptation were designed to work immediately and read clearly live.
/ Media Coverage
The result achieved at Moscow’s Circle of Light also attracted the attention of Italian television: TG2 dedicated a segment to the competition and Luca Agnani Studio’s participation. The television coverage helped introduce the Italian public to a field that was still little known at the time: video mapping as a language capable of combining art, technology, architecture and urban spectacle.
/ Award
Third place at Art Vision 2013 represented a turning point: it confirmed the value of Luca Agnani Studio’s research and placed the work within an international projection mapping circuit. From that moment, the studio’s language became consolidated: attention to architectural structure, narrative use of light, transformation of real volumes and the ability to build images designed for public space.
/ Legacy
3rd Prize
The recognition obtained in Moscow became one of the studio’s first international awards and strengthened its identity in the field of architectural video mapping.
From competition to portfolio
Participation in Art Vision anticipated a phase of international growth, with subsequent projects on facades, monuments and public spaces in Italy and abroad.
A defining project
The page documents not only a performance, but a founding moment: the beginning of a recognizable professional trajectory in digital art applied to architecture.
